Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) pronounced his name two different ways in videos posted to his social media Wednesday announcing he is running for president in 2024.
National radio host Todd Starnes responded to the separate clips, asking, “Is it ‘Dee Santis’ or ‘Duh Santis’?”
In the original announcement video, the Republican governor pronounced it “DEE Santis.”

In a hit piece published last week by Politico on Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis, Michael Kruse pointed out the name change:
She also, it seems, got her husband to change the way he says his family name.
“Dee-Santis,” he would say up until around that point. It’s how he always said it. She, on the other hand, would soften that first syllable. “Deh-Santis.”
People noticed the discrepancy and asked about it. “Yes,” campaign spokesperson Stephen Lawson confirmed that September to a reporter from the Tampa Bay Times. “He prefers Dee-Santis.”
Or did.
On election night Ron Deh-Santis took the stage with his wife. She wore a striking long red gown.
Starnes followed up to his tweet.
DISASTER! DeSantis Suffers ‘Failure to Launch’
“It’s sort of important,” the “Todd Starnes Show” host tweeted. “We don’t want to be accused by pro-DeSantis influencers of mispronouncing the candidate’s name. Could the campaign please clarify?”
