Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who had previously lost four rounds of votes, lost the fifth round Wednesday. A sixth round for speaker is expected.
Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) nominated McCarthy in the fifth round. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) nominated Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and took shots at McCarthy in her speech, suggesting conservative holdouts were threatened.
“Why didn’t the supposed leader of the Republican Party present these rules?” she asked about the rules agreed on during the GOP conference meeting.
“Let’s work together,” Boebert said, taking a shot at McCarthy and bringing up former President Trump.
She said Trump called her and the other members but should instead call McCarthy and tell him he doesn’t have the votes.
“Even having my favorite president call us and tell us we need to knock it off,” she said. “I think it actually needs to be reversed. The president needs to tell Kevin McCarthy that, ‘Sir, you do not have the votes and it’s time to withdraw.'”
