Yakym to Starnes: Nothing Matters Without Free Elections
Rep. Rudy Yakym (R-IN) called on the Senate Thursday to stop stalling and pass the SAVE America Act, he told the Todd Starnes Show.
“The House has passed the SAVE America Act, or an integration of the SAVE America Act, over four times now,” Yakym said. “The Senate has got to get on the ball.”
It has been more than a year since the House first passed the bill requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. Since then, House Republicans have attached the measure to other must-pass legislation and forced repeat votes, only to watch it stall on the other side of the Capitol.
Yakym said the repeated failures in the Senate are no longer acceptable, and that the stakes go beyond politics.
“If we don’t have free and secure elections, nothing else really matters,” Yakym said.
The Indiana Republican’s comments come as House GOP leadership continues to press for another vote and as the party looks to make election security a rallying point heading into the fall.
