Religious Liberty Leader SLAMS Andy Stanley as ‘False Prophet’

Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, slammed megachurch pastor Andy Stanley for being a “false prophet” Monday on the “Todd Starnes Show.”

This comes after Stanley, the son of famous pastor and author Dr. Charles Stanley, shared a brief statement on homosexuals during his Sunday morning service.

Host Todd Starnes said Stanely “came out and suggested that straight Christians needed to be like gay Christians.”

I’m taking a group of 100 listeners to the Holy Land in November. And I want you to join our effort to Stand with Israel. Information is on my website at ToddStarnes.com.

Stanely told his congregation in part: “A gay person — who knows — they might not be accepted here, but says, ‘I’m going to try anyways.’ Have you done that as a straight person? I’m telling you they have more faith than I do.”

Is Andy Stanley a modern-day false prophet?

Perkins explained that this statement by the North Point Community Church pastor deviated from the Word of God and is causing people to walk in confusion and darkness.

“It’s very, very dangerous,” Perkins told Starnes.

“We must defend the truth and let out the truth, which begins in the church. Others must come to know the truth,” Perkin stated.

“Andy Stanley’s a false prophet. He is a false prophet. And I believe he will have to give an account for ignoring scripture and teaching people,” Perkins added.

Stanley and his Alpharetta, Georgia church are hosting a conference later this year “for Christian parents with LGBTQ+ children and ministry leaders.”

The following is a rush transcript from the Todd Starnes Show, which airs daily from noon – 3:00 p.m. EST.

TODD STARNES: [00:02:27] Great to have with us our good friend, former military veteran himself, Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, host of Washington Watch. Tony, unbelievable the developments over the weekend. [00:02:37][10.7]

PASTOR TONY PERKINS: [00:02:39] Todd, Absolutely. But I would not be surprised. China is breaching our borders with a trial balloon to see how much we will tolerate as a country. [00:02:50][10.4]

STARNES: [00:02:51] It really does make you wonder where all of this is going. And we’re going to be speaking with the president in the next hour about that President Trump. But you’ve got a big, big event happening tonight. And I wanted to talk about that. You’re delivering tonight’s State of Faith, Family, and Freedom address. FRC dot org is the landing page there. Tony, what is the state of faith, family, and freedom? [00:03:16][24.4]

PERKINS: [00:03:17] Well, it’s under assault by this administration. We’re going to talk about core values issues that define America. You know, America was a great nation because it was a good nation. That moral foundation has been steadily chipped away at over the centuries, over the decades, especially over the last six decades. This administration is taking a jackhammer to it, accelerating the pace at which they are pounding this foundation. So we’re going to talk about those issues that the president will not touch tomorrow night, or we’ll be talking about the reverse side. I’m sure he’s going to tout his administration’s championing of, quote-unquote, reproductive freedom, essentially violating the law, pushing abortion pills through the mail, and transgendering our children with this radical agenda coming out from the left. And so we’re going to talk about that. But we’re also going to highlight, Todd, the fact that Americans have had enough, and they’re not waiting for Washington to solve the problems anymore. And so parents across the country are taking matters into their own hands, running for school board, electing school boards, and protecting their children. You know, we see more work in the pro-life arena taking place. So there’s a lot to be encouraged about as people realize that our faith, our families, and our freedom, really, they really are under attack. [00:04:39][82.1]

STARNES: [00:04:40] I thought it was quite ironic last night. I was not watching the Grammy Awards. I would rather get the clot shot from Whoopi Goldberg. But, Tony, it was open debauchery and open worship of Satan. And CBS actually promoted this event as a worship event of the Prince of Darkness on national television. [00:05:03][23.0]

PERKINS: [00:05:05] The divide in the nation could not be any greater. And it’s very interesting, Todd, to watch. You know, over a quarter of a century in this political process, been in Washington here for 20 years, and I’ve watched the divide grow more significant. But here’s what Hollywood is doing. Hollywood is leaving the vast majority of Americans behind because that does not reflect where Americans are. I mean, you see this wokeness in corporate America. You see, you know, Hollywood was already there. But they’re becoming even more brazen, you know, in this demonic activity that took place last night. And so, yeah, sure, certainly they are influencing a large portion of our culture. But a lot of people are saying, you know what? Enough is enough. And so the point we stand at, and I’m going to talk about this tonight, is I can only point to one other point, one other time in American history the nation was as divided, and that was during the Civil War, right before the Civil War. So we’re an ideologically divided nation. It does have some geographical boundaries, not like it did in the 1860s. But we’re a divided nation, and something must bring us together, and that something has to be based on truth. And right now, that’s not coming from Washington, D.C.. [00:06:25][80.7]

STARNES: [00:06:26] One of the pastors of one of the largest evangelical churches in America, based in Atlanta, not going to name his name, but came out and suggested that straight Christians needed to be like gay Christians. [00:06:40][14.3]

PERKINS: [00:06:41] Well, let me name it because Andy Stanley’s a false prophet. He is a false prophet. And I believe he will have to give an account for ignoring scripture and teaching people. It’s kind of like in Jeremiah’s day where, you know, Jeremiah was the target of the cancel culture because he was speaking the word of God that people needed to repent and return to the truth. And the false prophets were saying, Oh, no, no, peace, peace. You know, nothing’s going to happen. This guy’s just out there. He’s crazy. We have false prophets today, and when they deviate from the Word of God, they get into this era of this heretical teaching. And Andy Stanley is one of those. [00:07:20][39.0]

STARNES: [00:07:21] I had to. I got to commend you, Tony, because, you know, there have been other ministers coming on this program. I can talk about it, but I want to name names. And I was just, you know, trying to be gracious. But I. I appreciate you coming out and saying the name and Stanley because that certainly it, and it’s causing I think it’s causing confusion in the church as well when he comes out with these kinds of statements. [00:07:42][21.0]

PERKINS: [00:07:43] Certainly causing confusion this is causing people to walk in darkness. This is very dangerous. And this is why, you know, the New Testament talks about teachers are going to be held to a higher account because, you know, if you’re a teacher, if you’re a leader, people are listening to you, and they are following you. And, you know, I make this statement only because I have communicated with Andy Stanley in the past about statements that he’s made. So I approached him about these issues, and he said, we’ll have to agree to disagree. Well, we’re at a point where we’re seeing children that are being trafficked. We see children that are being led down this path at an alarming rate, led into confusion about their sexual identity and into this is wrong. We just saw the passage in December of the so-called Respect for Marriage Act, which has already led to, as we predicted, Christian public servants, having a target placed on them. Jacob Kersey, a 19-year-old police officer in Port Wentworth, Georgia, posted a statement making reference to biblical marriage, and he was bullied into resigning his position. That’s only going to accelerate unless we stand up and know not just defend the truth but live out the truth. And that begins in the church. [00:09:10][86.5]

STARNES: [00:09:11] And not to belabor the point here, Tony, we had Jacob on the show last week. Still, you had a state senator from Nebraska introduce legislation that would criminalize invading or inviting a child to a youth group or a Bible study. There was the Virginia Democrat in the legislature there who wanted to prosecute parents who don’t affirm their kid’s sexual identity. So this is a clear war on the family in America and Christianity. [00:09:37][26.8]

PERKINS: [00:09:39] It is. I mean, so if anyone doesn’t believe there are, I don’t know what rock they’re hiding under. But here’s the thing. None of us like conflict. I mean, well, I should rephrase that. Most of us do not like conflict. I don’t like conflict, but truth. Truth demands that we stand for what is right, which will often result in conflict. But the purpose of this is not to win the debate. It’s not to prevail over someone else. It is so that others might come to know the truth. Because if we are, if we all know that the way to, you know, the abundant life, as Jesus said, is through the truth of knowing him. If we’re afraid to speak that, then there’s going to be a lot of people that never find the truth in the freedom and the abundant life that comes with that. [00:10:29][49.6]

STARNES: [00:10:29] Well said. All right. Big event tonight, 8:00 Eastern. The president of the Family Research Council, Tony Perkins, delivered his State of Faith, Family, and Freedom address. And Tony, correct. This is FRC dot org. Is that the best landing page for folks? [00:10:44][14.1]

PERKINS: [00:10:44] FRC dot org will take you right to 8 p.m. Eastern time. [00:10:48][3.1]

STARNES: [00:10:48] All right. We’ll be watching. Tony, good to hear from you. Appreciate you taking the time to visit. [00:10:51][3.2]

PERKINS: [00:10:52] All right, John, always great to talk with you. [00:10:54][1.4]

STARNES: [00:10:54] All right. There you go, folks. And and I ams you know, again, you have to Tony Perkins, one of those clarion voices in the culture right now. And he does not shy away from calling people who need to be called out. So good for him. And we’ve got a direct link to FRC dot org on the live show blog. [00:11:15][21.5]
