Residents in Montgomery County, Maryland were not too pleased when government leaders took down the POW/MIA flag at the Veterans Memorial Plaza and replaced it with a gay pride flag.
Who in their right mind would ever imagine that was an appropriate thing to do?

“I wasn’t happy about it at all because the park is supposed to be a veterans park,” Vietnam veteran John Williams told the Washington Examiner. “People died. Now they took it down and put another flag up.”
NBC News reports it was the first time ever that county leaders flew the gay pride flag and it will remain posted through the month of June.
They said the POW/MIA flag was removed because the flag post could only accommodate one flag.
After citizens complained, the rainbow flag was briefly removed and the POW/MIA was later restored to its rightful place.
Brian Gaither, the co-founder of the Pride Foundation of Maryland, condemned county leaders for deciding to “cave to empty criticism and remove the Pride flag to a position of unequal dignity.”
He said the controversy over the removal of the POW/MIA flag is “an easy opportunity for some people to express their bigotry.”
“The debate over when, where and how to display it is mostly an attempt to minimize us, or to wholly erase us, and we know what it is for,” Gaither wrote in a column published by Maryland Matters.
Once county leaders figured out how to add a second flag to the post, they reposted the gay pride flag.
It’s shameful that Montgomery County leaders desecrated the memorial plaza by removing the POW/MIA flag – albeit briefly. But that’s what happens when you elect people who favor political correctness over doing the right thing.
During the month of June they pledge allegiance to a very different kind of flag.
