The owners of a Mexican restaurant in Arizona are facing backlash for supporting President Trump, have a message for their critics: stop harassing us.
Jorge and Betty Rivas are legal immigrants who own Sammy’s Mexican Grill. They were seated directly behind President Trump at a recent rally and that’s when the trouble started.
Mr. Rivas said they have been deluged with threatening calls and negative reviews on Facebook and Google.
“We will not be intimidated,” he said on a Facebook Live post. “We’ve been in business for over 20 years.”
Some of the reviewers have called the Hispanic couple “evil racists.”
“Just because we are Latino doesn’t mean that we have to think like every other Latino in this country,” Mr. Rivas said. “We are individuals. We have the constitutional right to support whoever we want.”
President Trump also defended the couple’s restaurant in a tweet – calling the food “great.”
“I will try hard to stop by the next time I am in Phoenix,” the President said. “Support Sammy’s!”
Mr. Rivas said the trolls and bullies are wasting their time.
“I feel that as naturalized American citizens we have a right to support President Trump or any other candidate that loves this country,” he said.
And he also made a bold prediction about the 2020 presidential election.
“He will win again,” Mr. Rivas declared. “Landslide.”
