Host Todd Starnes said Skillet is his favorite Christian metal band. Their new album, “Dominion” was released Friday with 12 songs on it, including “Surviving the Game,” “Standing in the Storm,” and “Shout Your Freedom.”

“I think a lot of Christians are waking up to [getting invovled],” Cooper said. “In fact, as an inspiration for the name of this record, it’s based on Daniel 7 that says, ‘His dominion shall be an everlasting dominion.’ Christ is king of the earth. He is ruling over the earth right now in this and He has something to say.”

“It’s really a celebration of this world belongs to Christ and He has given the church a role to play in speaking justice to the nations,” Cooper continued.

Skillet started up as a band in 1996 that originally formed in Memphis, Tennessee. The group has been nominated for two Grammys, one in 2005 and the other in 2008.

“We are fighting through all of this crazy stuff in life and pandemics and this, that and the other,” Cooper said. “There’s this sort of battle of fear going on. I think something worse than the pandemic is really the pandemic of fear that’s happening.”

Cooper went on to discuss encouraging people, specifically not to live their lives in fear.

“Even some Christians that I know have really lived their lives in that fear and I want to encourage them not to,” said Cooper. “Because the Bible says we do not have a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind. Sound mind is what we definitely need to see back in America.”

Starnes and Cooper went on to discuss the attacks on Christianity occurring during this time.

“My greatest concern going through the pandemic- in the early days of the pandemic was how many of our fellow citizens were just willing to surrender their civil liberties, shut down the churches, shut down the ministries,” said Starnes. “And now I think a lot of these same churches are having a difficult time getting folks to come back to the church.”

“We don’t get our individual liberties from government, we get them from God,” Cooper agreed. “The American government protects those, right? And I think that a lot of Christians just missed it. And that’s okay- it’s not too late. But we do need to kind of see what’s happening. You have to put your spiritual eyes on.”
