Study Shows High School Students Love America, Then They Go to College

A recent study appears to support the theory that college campuses in the U.S. play a substantial role in diminishing patriotism among the country’s youth.

Spencer Brown, the spokesman for Young America’s Foundation, told the “Todd Starnes Show” on Wednesday that for anyone who watches cable news or reads major newspapers, the mood among the youth in should be pretty grim.

Most of the violent protesters in cities appear to be young with a penchant for destructing monuments who look up to people like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who made a career out of criticizing the country and its institutions.

Brown said his organization teamed up with Town Hall, the news website, to get an idea about how high school and college students actually feel about the country’s institutions, history and values. He said that they were encouraged by what the study found.

The study found that 66 percent of high school students believe America is exceptional, which is noticeably higher than the 47 percent of college students. The study also showed that 70 percent of high school students look favorably on the country’s history compared to 44 percent of college students.

Brown said the data shows that once you get to college “the leftist professors” go to work.

Todd Starnes, the host of the radio program, said the study seems to stand up the theory that college campuses in the U.S. act as “indoctrination centers.”

Critics of the violent protesters have said that it seems as though they want to turn the entire country into a college campus filled with safe spaces. If they see a statue that they don’t like, they either have it removed or topple it; if they don’t like a guest speaker, they either drown the person out with boos or threaten violence.

Brown said it is important that high school students learn about the country’s history and how to challenge the liberal orthodoxy on college campuses.

“Everything from abolishing prisons, to defunding the police to paying reparations…. everything that was totally normal on college campuses for years—so now to see it spilling over into the mainstream…a lot of people were caught off guard,” Brown said.
