BULLETIN: NFL Player Collapses During Game; First Responders Administer CPR

UPDATE: NFLPA statement: “The NFLPA and everyone in our community is praying for Damar Hamlin. We have been in touch with Bills and Bengals players, and with the NFL. The only thing that matters at this moment is Damar’s health and well being.”

UPDATE: NFL officially suspends game until further notice. Thousands of fans are quietly exiting the stadium. Fox Cincinnati reports Hamlin has been intubated and is in critical condition after “intense CPR.”

UPDATE: From Cincinnati Fox journalist Joe Danneman: “I’m told Damar Hamlin has a pulse, but is not breathing on his own. He is being transported to UC. Needed AED and CPR on the field.”

UPDATE: The game has been suspended for nearly an hour. There’s no word on Hamlin’s condition.

DEVELOPING STORY: Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field during the first quarter of a game Monday night between the Bills and the Bengals. Watch video of the moment below.

Hamlin was receiving CPR from the medical staff on the field for at least nine minutes, according to ESPN.

Players from both teams gathered on the field and prayed.

The game was temporarily delayed as Hamlin received medical aid. He was eventually placed on a stretcher and was given oxygen as he was taken off in an ambulance. 

Hamlin was removed by ambulance. The game was temporarily suspended.

Hamlin, 24, is in his second NFL season with the Bills. He played college football at Pitt.

“How do you as a member of the Buffalo Bills or the Cincinnati Bengals continue on … to play this game?” ESPN play-by-play announcer Joe Buck said during the broadcast.
