A Chinese airliner with 132 people on board crashed in the mountains in southern China, according to China’s Civil Aviation Administration.
The China Eastern Airlines Boeing-737 was in the Guangxi region when the jetliner lost contact over the city of Wuzhou with 123 passengers and nine crew members, CAAC said in a statement.
The casualties are unknown as rescue teams make their way to the scene, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reports.
President Xi Jinping is “shocked” over the crash and has ordered an investigation into the cause, according to state media.
Videos posted online allegedly show the “final seconds of Mu5735” with screaming passengers, and eyewitness footage on social media shows a forest fire on a mountainside.
