There are some absolutes when it comes to eating at Cracker Barrel. You’re absolutely going to get great fried chicken and biscuits. You’re absolutely going to get a waitress who calls you darlin’ and you’re absolutely going to be surrounded by lots of American patriots.
So maybe it’s not all that surprising that a Cracker Barrel outpost in Flagstaff, Arizona went viral for honoring one of our great military veterans.
A group of Cracker Barrel customers sang “Happy Birthday” to an 89-year-old Army veteran who broke down in tears while the restaurant applauded him, as depicted in a recent viral TikTok video.
Posted by user @authorvasanchez, the heartwarming video shows a man sitting in front of a birthday treat as fellow diners cheer in celebration with him.

The man’s name is Richard and he’s a regular breakfast diner at Cracker Barrel, according to a Whiskey Riff, a news publication. Richard has been dealing with some significant health issues and lost his wife ten years ago to cancer.
In a follow-up TikTok post, the original uploader (who goes by the name V. A. Sanchez) said she received an outpouring of comments expressing love and thankfulness toward Richard, which prompted her to launch a GoFundMe campaign to support him.
Donations toward Richard will support his transportation needs as well as hardware improvements around his house, the GoFundMe notes.
“What a moment. God, I love this country,” an OutKick commentator wrote. “Talk about unity. This is what it’s all about, boys and girls. Right here. It’s what makes this the greatest country in this world.”
Thousands of social media comments praised Cracker Barrel and reflected on the importance of supporting elders and veterans.
Another added, “I love people loving people. Especially the elderly!”
