Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV)
Flying spatulas and window screens, oh my! No, not from the Wizard of Oz, but from I-10 after Hurricane Harvey hit in Texas! We were driving down the road, minding our own business, when all of a sudden, it was like a virtual game of dodge-the-whatsit come to life! Dodge the spatula! Miss the bent-up window screen!
It got my attention, to say the least! I looked around and noticed a DIY moving van filled with the driver’s personal belongings and a junk truck hauling off the destroyed possessions, including the aforementioned spatula and window screen. Their home must have just undergone a tear-out after the flood and mold. What a contrast. The moving van represented what they could keep. The junk truck revealed what they had to throw away.
In our lives we have two trucks, too. What does God want us to keep? What does He want us to get rid of?
As you take off down the road of life, may He help you approach the journey with confidence that He is leading you and sustaining you. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll even get to keep your spatula!
Father, reveal to me what You want me to strip off so I can follow the path You lead without being weighted down.
