“Get Ready for a Toad-Strangler!”

By Michelle Medlock Adams

“The seventh time the servant reported, “A cloud as small as a man’s hand is rising from the sea.” So Elijah said, “Go and tell Ahab, ‘Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’” 1 Kings 18:44 (NIV)

Remember the story of Elijah and the small cloud? There was a terrible drought in the land, and God told Elijah to present himself to evil King Ahab, and He would send rain. Elijah did as God instructed. Still, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky.  Elijah kept praying and sent out his servant to look toward the sea for signs of rain. Elijah sent him out seven times, and the seventh report came back: “A cloud as small as a man’s hand is rising from the sea.” Elijah knew it was God and basically said, “Tell Ahab to get ready for a toad-strangler!”

Elijah had his faith eyes on.

When you begin each day, do you remember to put on your “faith eyes?” No, I’m not talking about some new miracle cream that diminishes wrinkles (But, if you have any of that cream, please message me about it!) I’m talking about seeing things through your eyes of faith. It’s one of the most important things you can “put on” each day. Having on your faith eyes will change the way you handle every challenge, any bit of bad news, or any unexpected situation you might face this week. Like Elijah, you’ll be looking for that small cloud and expecting a toadstrangler, instead of focusing on the naysayers and the drought.  So, go ahead and begin to boldly believe that God will do what He says He will do, and that He will work everything out for your good according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

Pray this with me: Father, help me to see things through my faith eyes and to trust You in all situations, knowing that You have got my back. I love You.  In the Mighty Name of Jesus. Amen.”
