Indiana’s Republican Senate Betrays Trump

The Indiana Senate rejected a plan to redraw the state’s congressional districts to produce two more GOP-friendly seats, rejecting President Trump’s campaign to pressure the Republican supermajority to fight back.

The 31-19 vote saw 21 Republicans join 10 Democrats in voting down the proposed map that would have positioned the GOP, which currently holds seven of Indiana’s nine US House seats, for a sweep of all nine seats in next year’s midterm elections.

President Trump is furious.

“Anybody that votes against Redistricting, and the SUCCESS of the Republican Party in D.C., will be, I am sure, met with a MAGA Primary in the Spring. If Republicans will not do what is necessary to save our Country, they will eventually lose everything to the Democrats,” he wrote on Truth Social.

Following, are the lawmakers who voted against redistricting:

Eric Bassler, Vaneta Becker, Mike Bohacek, Rodric Bray, Brian Buchanan, James Buck, Ed Charbonneau, Mike Crider, Spencer Deery, Dan Dernulc, Blake Doriot, Susan Glick, Greg Goode, Travis Holdman, Jean Leising, Ryan Mishler, Rick Niemeyer, Linda Rogers, Mark Spencer, Kyle Walker and Greg Walker.

Vice President J.D. Vance accused one Senate Republican leader of lying to his face.

“Bray consistently told us he wouldn’t fight redistricting while simultaneously whipping his members against it. That level of dishonesty cannot be rewarded, and the Indiana GOP needs to choose a side,” Vance wrote on X.

Donald Trump, Jr. warned that rogue Republicans would be subjected to primary opposition.

“If Indiana Republicans side with these Never Trumpers to do the dirty work of Democrats, I’ll be spending a lot of time in Indiana next year campaigning against every single one of them,” the president’s son said.

Indiana Senate Majority Leader Chris Garten blasted his fellow Republicans.

“Some will say these maps are political. Let me be clear: You’re DAMN RIGHT they are… Safe streets are political. Affordable electricity is political. A drug free Indiana is political. Peace in the Middle East is political… We’re not here to be neutral arbiters of decline. We’re hear to be agents of American greatness,” he said.

Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith said that just when Hoosiers expected a backbone, many Senate Republicans proved to be spineless.

“If Hoosiers were hoping to see an ounce of courage from the Senate today, they did not get it,” he said in a statement. “A vote against redistricting undercuts years of work throughout the state. The people who have stood with President Trump and pushed for a system that reflects their voice have been clear about the direction they want Indiana to move. Yet again, the Senate chose a different course.”
