Every time Kamala Harris speaks down South – she sounds like she’s trying out for a Tyler Perry movie. Madea Goes to the White House.
If you set aside the constant cackling and word salad – the vice president is rather well-spoken. So, why is it, when Kamala is addressing a mostly black crowd – in Detroit or in Dixie – that she puts on this fake black preacher voice?
Speaking as a Southerner – there’s nothing worse than someone faking a Southern accent.
And what Kamala is doing is a form of linguistic black face.
Hillary Clinton did the same thing back in the day – dropping her g’s – wailing from behind the pulpit of a black church as if she was Martin Luther King Junior in a polyster pant suit.
Mitt Romney did it too – telling voters that he loved grits – and fried chicken. He caused a bit of a scandal below the Mason-Dixon Line when he proceeded to discard the fried chicken skin – and at the bird with a knife and fork. He may as well have washed it down with a glass of unsweet tea. That one moment caused Romney to lose the South.
And that brings me to the controversy over Kamala’s collard greens. The vice president has been all about boosting her bonafides within the black community.
She’s been telling anyone who will listen about how she makes the best collard greens – with hot sauce.
The secret – according to the vice president – is that she prepares her greens in the bath tub.
As a Son of the South – I can assure you that nobody down in Dixie washes their collards in the same place where we wash our nether regions. It’s just downright disgusting.
So fair warning, America. If you get invited to the Naval Observatory for supper – don’t be surprised if the greens taste like “Irish Spring.”
