Kerry: Media Should Tone Down Terror Coverage

By Todd Starnes

The Obama Administration seems to believe the best way to fight the Islamic radicals is for journalists to put their heads in the sand.

Secretary of State John Kerry told a gathering in Bangladesh that the media spends too much time covering terrorism.

“Remember this: No country is immune from terrorism,” he said. “It’s easy to terrorize. Government and law enforcement have to be correct 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.”

And then he pounced on the reporters and broadcasters.

“But if you decide one day you’re going to be a terrorist and you’re willing to kill yourself, you can go out and kill some people. You can make some noise,” Kerry continued. “Perhaps the media would do us all a service if they didn’t cover it quite as much. People wouldn’t know what’s going on.”

Secretary Kerry’s comments were similar to ones made by President Obama last year in an inteview with Vox.

The president was asked if the media “sometimes overstates the level of alarm people should have about terrorism.”

“Absolutely,” the president said. “If it bleeds, it leads.”

Well, when the Islamic radicals pay your town a visit – there is typically quite a bit of blood shed.

In that same interview the president said that Americans have a right to be alarmed by “vicious zealots who behead people or randomly shoot a bunch of folks in a deli in Paris.”

Instead of telling reporters how to do their jobs – maybe the Obama Administration could do us all a service and destroy the Islamic State.

But we all know that won’t happen because the president refuses to even acknowledge the name of the enemy.

That disturbing fact should elicit breaking news alerts.
