Todd Starnes Show Recap – Oct 6

THE THIRD HOUR OF THE TODD STARNES SHOW:

BREAKING NEWS: Attorney General signs “Federal Law Protections for Religious Liberty”

Updates:

2:05pm – Sanctuary State! California became a “sanctuary state” on Thursday as Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation protecting illegal immigrants in defiance of the Trump administration. The bill, approved by the state’s legislature last month, bars police from asking people about their immigration status or participating in federal immigration enforcement activities in most cases starting Jan. 1. California is home to an estimated 2.3 million illegal immigrants. In a written statement, Brown stressed that the law would not prohibit federal immigration officials from doing their jobs and would allow sheriffs to grant federal agents access to jails. But he said it prevents the “commandeering of local officials” to do immigration work. “These are uncertain times for undocumented Californians and their families, and this bill strikes a balance that will protect public safety, while bringing a measure of comfort to those families who are now living in fear everyday,” Brown said. Guest: Ruben Navarette, Nationally Syndicated Columnist

THE SECOND HOUR OF THE TODD STARNES SHOW:

UPDATES:

1:05pm- Regulate? Twelve bump stocks were found in the hotel room of the Las Vegas shooter. Bump stocks are attachments that modify and enable semiautomatic rifles to fire faster. Hundreds of people were injured and 59 were killed when Stephen Paddock got behind the trigger during the concert.  In the days after the mass shooting, the National Rifle Association said these devices should be “subject to additional regulations.” What seemingly was finally a common ground in the gun control debate has drawn mixed reaction among those who are pro-gun.

1:20pm- Open/Calls/Audio/ OR Secret Code? President Donald Trump said Thursday it was “the calm before the storm” as he met with senior military leaders amid increasing tensions around the globe and speculation of changes in foreign policy. The president’s use of the ominous phrase prompted others to question what he meant by it – to which the president replied even more ominously: “You’ll find out.”Trump said he expected the Pentagon brass in the room to offer him “a broad range of military options, when needed, at a much faster pace.” Multiple reports, however, have suggested the White House next week will effectively scrap the Iran nuclear deal signed by the Obama administration in 2015, kick-starting a new standoff between Iran and the U.S.

1:30pm- Will You Watch? NFL diehards are calling offside on the league over players’ anthem protests, a new poll has found. Thirty percent of self-described “fans of the NFL” say they are watching less football this season, and more than half blame players protesting racism by kneeling during the national anthem, according to the Seton Hall Sports Poll, conducted by The Sharkey Institute. Of those watching fewer games, 52 percent said it was because they disagreed with the protests. Six percent said they were boycotting games in solidarity with kneeling players. The issue has become a flashpoint for Americans since President Trump said on Sept. 22 that NFL team owners should fire “son of a bitch” anthem protesters, and then spent the weekend waging war against the league in a flurry of tweets. Question: Will you watch the games this weekend? 888-788-9910

Paddock also had Googled Fenway Park and the Boston Center for the Arts, and also conducted online searches for large concert venues in the Boston area, sources told the Boston Globe. An official who was not authorized to speak publicly told the paper it was unclear whether Paddock was ever in Beantown — or when he conducted the Internet searches.
