UPDATES:

1:35 PM Congressman Steve King:

“First is that DACA was going to be ended –  that was the campaign promise all along…I supported the Trump agenda that existed January 20th when he was sworn in here in Washington, D.C.”

“If there’s a deal to be made on DACA, it includes amnesty…”

“The Trump base is built on the immigration issue…the Trump loyalists can’t stay loyal to him if he does not stay loyal to them…”

King said he spoke with Trump last week before he issued his statement on DACA, and he also spoke with the Chief of Staff today.

“We’ve got to have our voices heard – and heard loud and clear.”

King says we need to put these issues into play:

  • English as official language
  • Birthright citizenship
  • Count citizens instead of people when it comes to redistricting for Congress — would move 9 or 10 seats out of the Democrats’ hands.

“He’s walking this thing back and solidifying his position on the border security and domestic enforcment,” King said after listening to the statement Trump made earlier today.

We need to get the rule of law done and in order before we talk about amnesty.

“I’d like to hear the president say no DACA, let’s get the enforcement, then we can talk.”

TODD STARNES POLL:

RUNDOWN:

12:05 PM Some Deal? President Trump denied Thursday that he had struck a deal with Democratic congressional leaders to address the fate of children of undocumented immigrants – insisting that any agreement would have to be tied to border security. “No deal was made last night on DACA,” Trump said in an early morning tweet, referring to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, a program established by former President Obama. “Massive border security would have to be agreed to in exchange for consent. Would be subject to vote,” he tweeted. “The WALL, which is already under construction in the form of new renovation of old and existing fences and walls, will continue to be built.” But on Wednesday night, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) – whom Trump invited for dinner at the White House — announced they had agreed on a law that would protect so-called “Dreamers.” They said the law also would include border security, “excluding the wall.”

12:20 PM – Do you feel betrayed by Trump? Do you blame Republicans for forcing Trump to reach across the aisle? CALL 888-788-9910

1:05 PM – Amnesty Don! Facing mutiny among Republicans, Trump insisted that nothing is final yet, his priorities remain intact, and GOP leaders are part of the talks. “We’re fairly close” to a deal that would address DACA and also include “massive border security,” Trump told reporters as he headed to Florida to inspect damage from Hurricane Irma. He added that House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell are “very much on board” and that public opinion is with him. “Look,” he said, “92 percent of the people agree on DACA, but what we want is very, very powerful border security, ok?” That wasn’t good enough for critics. Breitbart News, run by Trump’s former chief strategist Steve Bannon, labeled him “Amnesty Don” and the #AmnestyDon hashtag erupted on Twitter. Asked as he boarded Air Force One whether he favors “amnesty,” Trump shouted back: “The word is DACA.”

1:30 PM Congressman Steve King (R-IA):

Rep. King is following Donald Trump‘s immigration pivot with a pivot of his own — switching from defending the president to threatening him

1:50 PM – What Happened? Hillary Clinton has appeared on a variety of friendly platforms to promote her new book, but CNN’s Anderson Cooper’s interview Wednesday night may have been the softest yet – touching on yoga and “nostril breathing” and Broadway. The “AC360” host asked Clinton about her favorite Broadway musical, yoga and even “alternative nostril breathing” during a 38-minute interview that allowed her to vent about losing the election while simultaneously promoting her book, “What Happened.” The former presidential candidate also appeared on ABC’s “The View” and NBC’s “Today” on Wednesday and both interviews essentially went exactly how media watchdogs would expect. The mostly female crowd of “The View” chanted pro-Clinton messages and cheered the former First Lady. Meanwhile, NBC’s Matt Lauer confronted Clinton about her criticism of the “Today” host in an interview that featured at least one hard-hitting question when he asked, “Did you make enough mistakes yourself to lose the election?”

2:05 PM – Hurricane Ben! The University of California, Berkeley will seal off large parts of its campus like a fortress with a closed perimeter and a “very large” visible police presence Thursday, when the birthplace of America’s free speech movement faces its next potential clashes. City and campus authorities anticipate demonstrations at a speech by conservative commentator Ben Shapiro, a former Breitbart editor, and are preparing for possible violence with a variety of new strategies and tightened security. For the first time in two decades, officers will be armed with pepper spray after the city council modified a 1997 ban at an emergency meeting this week. The tactics to boost security are the latest indication of growing frustrations in Berkeley and other liberal cities that have become targets of violent political protests since the election of President Donald Trump and battlegrounds for extremist groups that support and oppose him.

2:20 PM – Spencer Brown, spokesperson for Young America’s Foundation

2:30 PM – Sorry Not Sorry? After ESPN, the White House and anyone and everyone else in between commented on her tweet about President Trump being a “white supremacist,” Jemele Hill has come back with a statement of her own. The “Sports Center” co-host tweeted late Wednesday night about the “elephant in the room.” “My comments on Twitter expressed my personal beliefs,” Hill said. “My regret is that my comments and the public way I made them painted ESPN in an unfair fight. My respect for the company and my colleagues remains unconditional.” Should ESPN Fire her? 888-788-9910
