THE THIRD HOUR OF THE TODD STARNES SHOW:

UPDATES:

BREAKING NEWS:

Meanwhile, Jimmy Kimmel applouds John McCain.

2:30pm- Illegal Work? The Washington state attorney general is suing the operator of the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma for wage violations. Attorney General Bob Ferguson says some detainees get paid either $1 or receive snacks. The Department of Labor joined the suit, saying workers should be paid the state’s $11 minimum wage. The suit claims the center has been barely paying workers since at least 2005. Ferguson says that’s because the detention center is a for-profit facility and not state run, they are not exempt from the state’s minimum wage laws. That means anyone they employ, detainee or not, must get at least $11 per hour. The GEO Group, a Florida-based company, owns and operates the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma under a contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Detainees since 2005 did laundry, cooked, cleaned and performed other work but were only paid $1 per day and in some cases did not receive that much because they were paid in food or snacks, the lawsuit said. “The law is clear. They should have been paid the state’s minimum wage at the time they were working,” Ferguson told reporters in Seattle.

2:50pm- Pay Up! A school district in Missouri could start suing parents who don’t pay for their children’s school lunches. KOMU reports said that in Southern Boone School District, nearly 70 families owe roughly $30,000. It’s an annual problem for the district, according to School Board President Barrett Glascock. “Some parents just don’t pay,” he said. “So we’re going to try to go after that.” The new policy says that parents with unpaid meal charges won’t be able to attend events like graduation ceremonies. The district will also take a family to court if their unpaid school lunch balance hits $500. If parents file a payment plan with the district, however, they will be able to avoid those consequences. Every student can still get a lunch under the new policy, which doesn’t affect those who receive government assistance. The school board president said some parents haven’t paid school lunches from the time their child was in kindergarten all the way through senior year of high school.

THE SECOND HOUR OF THE TODD STARNES SHOW:

UPDATES:

1:05pm- GOP Civil War! The two Republicans competing in Alabama’s upcoming Senate runoff sparred over President Trump’s endorsement in the race of the establishment-favored incumbent over the Christian-conservative outsider, one night before the president’s planned visit to the state. During a televised debate in Montgomery on Thursday evening, appointed incumbent Sen. Luther Strange repeatedly boasted that the president, who is traveling to Alabama on Friday to boost support for his campaign, endorsed him over his opponent. “I know you may get tired of hearing this — and you may resent that the president is my friend and is supporting me in this race — but I think it’s a good thing that the president of the United States has a personal relationship with the junior senator from Alabama,” Strange told his rival, former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore. Despite Trump’s endorsement, some of the president’s usual allies, including former senior adviser Steve Bannon, are supporting Moore. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin headlined a post-debate rally for Moore after the debate. Moore has been polling ahead of Strange, who is favored by Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell. The runoff takes place Tuesday.

1:20pm- Guest: Dr. Sebastian Gorka, Chief strategist for MAGA, The American Coalition & author of his latest book, Defeating Jihad: The Winnable War. Please check him out at TheGorkabriefing.com

1:30pm- Thanks A lot! A restaurant patron in Delaware wasn’t thrilled to be eating next to a fellow patron’s service animal — and she wasn’t afraid to let him know. The woman, who was dining at Kathy’s Crab House & Family Restaurant in Delaware City, was filmed yelling at group of people in the middle of the eatery, arguing that having a dog in the dining room is “nasty,” and that there should be a “separate section” for people with animals. “I’m not going to keep my voice to myself,” she can be seen telling a fellow patron. “I’m gonna voice it just like I did, and there’s nothing you can do about it.” In the video, the woman herself also claimed to be the widow of a military veteran, but that didn’t seem to soften her stance on the large Great Dane wearing a vest reading “PTSD Service Dog.”

THE FIRST HOUR OF THE TODD STARNES SHOW:

UPDATES:

12:05pm- Macho Man!

A.    Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has called for a movement of men who stick up for the rights of women, saying they must shut down “locker room conversations”. “Being a feminist for me means recognizing that men and women should be, can be, must be equal and secondly, that we still have an awful lot of work to do” he told a crowd gathered for a United Nations (UN) youth empowerment campaign in New York. He added that he was “proud” to stand as an “advocate for He for She”, a UN movement “of men standing up for women.” He described it as men “shutting down some of those negative conversations that we get in locker rooms, in bro culture.”

B.     French President Emmanuel Macron is planning to put an end to a big problem in France. No, it’s not terrorism. It’s the French “macho culture.” According to Macron and his Gender Equality cabinet member Marlene Schiappa, French men are too manly. They’ve become so dangerous that women don’t feel safe dressing or walking how they please. Which is surprising, as most French men and women dress alike. Gender equality at its finest.

12:20pm- Question: Do you want a macho man as your leader? 888-788-9910

12:30pm- Wary Over Barry? The Obama Presidential Center is poised to transform Chicago’s Jackson Park, as well as its surrounding neighborhoods. But residents want a binding community benefits agreement. In 2021, the Barack Obama Presidential Center is scheduled to open in Jackson Park. The Obama Foundation predicts an economic impact of $339 million during the center’s construction and $177 million annually from the three-building campus. The OPC, according to the Foundation, will create more than 2,000 jobs on the South Side alone once it is open. Not everyone is on board with the former President.

Not everyone on the South Side, it seems, thinks Obama did enough for black folks during his eight years as president. And as he prepares to build a presidential center that will pay tribute to his legacy, some South Siders are calling him out for what they consider broken promises.
