THE THIRD HOUR OF THE TODD STARNES SHOW:

UPDATES:

2:05pm – Election Day! The two Republican Alabama Senate candidates face off today in what is one of the first tests of President Donald Trump’s influence on elections. Sen. Luther Strange, who was appointed to finish out Jeff Sessions’ term when he was tapped as the U.S. attorney general, faces the conservative former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore Tuesday in a runoff. Both Trump and Vice President Mike Pence visited Alabama over the past week to campaign for Strange. Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon pitted himself against Trump in the race as he backed Moore and campaigned for him on the eve of the election. In Alabama Monday night, Bannon also praised Trump as “one of the most courageous individuals” in an apparent move to alleviate fears Trump’s own base may have over siding with a different candidate. Moore also received the support of “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson, Brexit leader Nigel Farage and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

2:30pm- Guest: Matthew West is a four-time GRAMMY® nominee, a multiple-ASCAP Christian Music Songwriter/Artist of the Year winner and Dove Award recipient. He is out with a new album titled “ All In”

2:50pm- Stand up! The National Quartet Convention in Pigeon Forge is showing their support for our armed forces and the national anthem. An emotional performance by the U.S. Army Quartet received an eruption of applause Monday night. “We get it a lot,” Sgt. K.C. Armstrong said. “This was like over the top.” This comes after the National Quartet Convention emcee called on the entire crowd to stand, which was a direct aim at NFL players following this weekends’ controversial protests. Clarke Beasley, the executive vice president of NQC, said, “The insufferable attitudes of these millionaire athletes who take a knee while the anthem is sung, while the flag is presented. When people gave the ultimate sacrifice.”

THE SECOND HOUR OF THE TODD STARNES SHOW:

UPDATES:

1:05pm- How it All Began! More and more have joined American football player Colin Kaepernick’s protest movement against police brutality, a move that has come to be something of direct resistance to Donald Trump after the President weighed in on the issue. The contentious move to take a knee during the national anthem before a game, or stand with arms locked in silent protest, follows in a  long tradition of sports stars standing up for what they believe to be right — but some charge that it is unpatriotic and that politics should be kept out of sports. Toddrecaps how this all began!

1:30pm- CSPAN! A C-SPAN caller on Monday began crying on the air because she said NFL players who are protesting the national anthem made watching football “too painful” for her. The caller on Washington Journal‘s “independents line” explained to host Pedro Echevarria that she was boycotting the NFL because she agreed with President Donald Trump’s assertion that players should have more respect for the American flag and national anthem. “I’m a big huge football fan but I can’t watch it anymore because it brings tears to my eyes,” Sharon from Williamstown, New Jersey explained. “It’s too painful so I can’t do that.” According to Sharon, the flag “is a symbol of imperfect people in an imperfect country always trying to do the right thing.” “It’s just shameful and it hurts me to see people taking a knee when we are supposed to be joyful about living in this country,” she said. “After I saw what happened [with players kneeling during the anthem], I tried to watch it and I just couldn’t because I just kept crying.” And true to her word, Sharon broke down in tears.

THE FIRST HOUR OF THE TODD STARNES SHOW:

UPDATES:

12:05pm The latest!  President Trump called on the NFL Tuesday to change its own rules to prohibit kneeling during the national anthem, while taking on the Dallas Cowboys directly for their protest during Monday Night Football.  “The NFL has all sorts of rules and regulations. The only way out for them is to set a rule that you can’t kneel during our National Anthem!” Trump tweeted.  Earlier in the morning, the president also swiped at the Cowboys after the players — along with owner Jerry Jones — kneeled before the anthem ahead of their game against the Arizona Cardinals. Trump said there is “great anger” in the stands over these spectacles.  “The booing at the NFL football game last night, when the entire Dallas team dropped to its knees, was loudest I have ever heard. Great anger,” the president tweeted.   However, he added: “But while Dallas dropped to its knees as a team, they all stood up for our National Anthem. Big progress being made-we all love our country!” The ratings-focused president also suggested that viewers at this point are largely tuning in to see who kneels, and then tuning out.  “Ratings for NFL football are way down except before game starts, when people tune in to see whether or not our country will be disrespected!” Trump tweeted early Tuesday.

12:20pm- Question: Do you want your tax dollars going towards building these stadiums? 888-788-9910

12:30pm- Guest: Kellyanne Conway, Counselor to the President
