Open my eyes to see wonderful things in your Word (Psalm 119:18, TLB).
Occasionally the local newspaper prints a story about a weird and wacky happening that occurred someplace else in the nation. One article I read gave an account of a four-year-old boy who drove his mother’s car to a video store in the middle of the night. Somehow the child was able to put the vehicle in gear, and the idling engine provided enough power to get him to the business a quarter of a mile away and back home. Yes, it’s crazy (and scary), but true.
Another article reported about a guy who jumped into the lion’s cage at the zoo. Witnesses said he was shouting “Jesus will save you” to the animals. Evidently his message offended one of the lions, and it attacked the man. The other lion wasn’t so hostile. Maybe because it was already a Christian.
The Bible tells of extraordinary events too, and it makes for great reading. A talking donkey. An eight-year-old boy running a country. A king eating grass like a cow. A big fish vomiting a man. A child defeating a giant. The lame walking. The blind seeing. People being raised from the dead. A virgin giving birth. Someone dying on the cross for our sins. It’s fabulous material, and it all points to an amazing God.
Have you picked up a Bible lately? There’s no time like now.
Almighty and amazing God, thank you for showing us who you are and for the fascinating, life-changing stories in your Word.
