Miranda Lambert won’t use stage as political platform

Amidst a flurry of what might be a confusing lack of enthusiasm for the stars and stripes and American patriotism in general – depending on an artist’s political leanings – comes Country music star Miranda Lambert who has pledged not to use the stage as a political platform.

Lambert told Billboard Magazine in a recent interview although she believes in “writing and singing sounds that count” – especially in highlighting other women who are singers and songwriters – she doesn’t preach.

“I am a 100 percent believer in not ever using the platform that I’ve built for anything other than music, because music to me is an escape from your own reality,” Lambert said. “I don’t want to go to a show and hear somebody preach about their opinions.”

Politics is “so divided you can’t win anyway,” the 33-year-old Texas native told Billboard.

Lambert’s comments contrast with those of music artist Lana Del Rey who recently told Pitchfork Magazine she feels less safe since Donald Trump has become president and so will no longer use American flag displays in her videos or shows.

Del Rey cited Planned Parenthood, President Trump and personal safety as reasons she will speak out on politics.
