Singer and actress Selena Gomez recently shared about her faith, going to Hillsong Church, as well as looking up to Pastor Carl Lentz for advice and help in her life.
“Elvis Duran and the Morning Show” interviewed the former Disney star for a little under 20 minutes, and their conversation started and ended with the subject of Hillsong NYC and the lead pastor, Carl Lentz.
Duran joked about how the paparazzi “caught” Ms. Gomez leaving church on Sunday — instead of doing something inappropriate.
“How can you not feel empowered after leaving Hillsong?” Duran said.
Selena Gomez is not shy about her Christian faith, and she even told Duran during the interview that she values faith and vulnerability.
“I haven’t really been all over the place lately and that’s kind of intentional. I think it’s important to balance out where I am and I’ve been doing this for a really long time and my sanity has meant everything to me, and a lot of that is my faith. I took 90 days off, I went away, I was very vocal about it because to me, where I get my confidence is my vulnerability. I can’t sit there and pretend that everything is good because I’ve done that for years, and it doesn’t really work for me.”
“I have such a heart for people…I wish I could save everyone,” the Texas native shared about traveling on tour.
She even penned a worship song on her last album, and sang it with Hillsong Young & Free at a concert in Los Angeles:
“Tonight is more than a concert,” Gomez told the audience as she took the stage.
“It’s more than Hillsong. It’s more than me coming on stage and singing a song for you. It’s about a relationship that is greater than anything,” she said.
“I wrote this song about the one thing that holds it all together for me even when I can’t bear to do it myself,” she continued. “The song is called, ‘Nobody.’ “
Duran ended the interview by telling Gomez that he’d been texting with Carl Lentz throughout the interview.
“I’ve been texting with Carl Lentz. I’ll tell him that we hung out, and you seem very well-tuned after your weekend with him.”
“I feel very refreshed,” she said, adding, “He’s the best.”
Duran shared about what it’s like to interact with Lentz.
“What just happened here? I feel good about my life,” he said.
“We need to be surrounding ourselves with more people like [Carl Lentz].”
“Absolutely, you guys should check out Hillsong anytime,” Gomez said at the conclusion of the interview.

And before you start criticizing Selena Gomez for not being who you think she should be, why not say a prayer for her? Same goes for criticism of Pastor Carl Lentz and Hillsong Church — I know I’m guilty of it.
