Starbucks Barista Draws Pig on Deputy’s Coffee Cup

It had been a long day for a deputy in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. In the middle of his 16-hour shift he dropped by the Starbucks in Norwalk for a cup of coffee.

When the deputy got his order he noticed that one of the Starbucks baristas had drawn a pig on the outside of his coffee cup. And Lord only knows what they may have done to the liquid inside the cup.

Sheriff Robert Luna is furious – and rightfully so. He says Starbucks should be ashamed – calling the artwork extremely offensive, inappropriate and unacceptable.

The sheriff said he personally contacted the company’s corporate security to raise concerns about the disparaging drawing. “This action was extremely offensive, inappropriate and unacceptable,” the department wrote in a statement. “Acts that promote hostility and division toward law enforcement undermine community trust and public safety.”

Starbucks apologized and said they are taking swift action. And let’s hope that happens.

“This was unacceptable. We have reached out to the customer several times and leaders in the Sheriff’s Department to apologize,” the Starbucks’ spokesperson said. “We have a deep appreciation for law enforcement who are dedicated to keeping our communities safe. We immediately launched an investigation and are taking swift action.”

The barista’s behavior prompted a huge debate around Norwalk with nearly 10,000 people posting message on the sheriff’s department’s Facebook page.

“I work in the City of Norwalk, and the deputies of Station 4 are second to none,” one citizen wrote. “There is a reason why witches are the same green as local baristas. If that deputy ever wants a cold Pepsi, send them over to Norwalk High School. We treat everyone with the respect that they deserve.”

However, many of the posts mocked the deputy and accused him of not being able to take a joke.

“I saw that drawing, the deputy, it’s a miracle he survived, but I hear he’s in the hospital recovering,” wrote on anti-cop critic. “I’m glad the officer didn’t open fire after the domestic terrorist “weaponized” the coffee cup.”

The deputy said the entire ordeal was discouraging and disrespectful.

“It felt discouraging and disrespectful, especially after a long day of serving the community,” the deputy wrote in the post. “All I wanted was caffeine, but instead I left feeling uneasy.”

Imagine putting his life on the line every day – only to be mocked by a glorified waitress at an overpriced coffee joint.
