What Are You Looking For?
“I love all who love me. Those who search will surely find me.” Proverbs 8:17 NIV
In her book One Thousand Gifts, Ann Voskamp shares her thoughts as she washes dishes. At the end of her insightful description she says, “And I only notice because I am looking for it.”
What are you looking for as you walk through life? More specifically what things do you notice on your daily journey? I asked myself the same question.
Many things come to mind—success, comfort, a good meal, and more. But truly are the tangible things those that bring joy and happiness? If those are the things I look for in life, I am missing the best part.
Every day I want to see the faces of my family. In their hugs I feel the warmth of God’s embrace. In the smiles of my grandchildren I see God’s blessing and pleasure. I want to walk beside my husband and know that God created us for this life journey as one.
When a friend calls just to say, “Hi!” I realize my demeanor changes from weariness and complacency to excitement. I am reminded our friendship goes way back and I am thankful.
The beauty outside my window is breathtaking. Who else but God could have created a world full of so many colors, sounds, smells, and textures. The birds sing and play, and I know there is a Creator who cares for us.
Sitting at the edge of the ocean, something calms my spirit. I relax and marvel at the enormity of it all. Who could think this vast span of water just happened?
Pay close attention today and notice the God-glimpses around you.
Lord, Help us always to be on the lookout for glimpses of Your goodness and love.
