West Virginia’s Governor Switches Political Parties

“Like it or not, but the Democrats walked away from me,” Gov. Justice told Trump supporters.

President Trump promised to make a “very big announcement” at Thursday’s rally in Huntington, West Virginia.

And West Virginia’s governor carried through on that promise.

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice announced on stage that he is switching parties, giving Republicans 34 of the 50 governorships in the United States.

“Today I will tell you, with lots of prayers and lots of thinking, I can’t help you anymore being a Democrat governor,” Justice said. “So tomorrow I will be changing my registration to Republican.”

The Democratic Governors Association spent $1.5 million to help Justice win the race in 2016, now a Republican governor and adding West Virginia to the list of states under complete Republican control. According to Americans for Tax Reform, Republicans will have full control of 26 states.
