DEVELOPING STORY: El Paso Police say a gunman opened fire at the food court inside the Cielo Vista Mall. Authorities have declared a mass casualty event.
Local television stations are reporting there are fatalities. University Medical Center has reportedly received two injured shoppers.
The mall is located next to the Walmart where a mass shooter killed 23 in 2019.
The El Paso Police Department has issued a citywide tactical alert as numerous agencies respond to the mall, the El Paso Times reports. The suspected gunman is believed to be on the run.
