BREAKING: ‘All hostages are out alive and safe!’

DEVELOPING STORY: An hours-long standoff at a Texas synagogue is over and the hostages are all safe. The gunman is dead.

“Prayers answered,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott wrote in a tweet. “All hostages are out alive and safe.”

Earlier today a Muslim gunman took four people hostage inside Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville.

The suspect was said to be a supporter of Aafia Siddiqui, a woman who was sentenced to 86 years in prison in 2010 for attempting to murder and assault U.S. military personnel and was being held at Federal Medical Center Carswell, at a prison in Fort Worth.

PREVIOUS REPORTS: A man who was reportedly ranting about Islam has taken an unknown number of people hostage inside a synagogue in Colleyville, Texas.

The Colleyville Police Department tweeted Saturday afternoon that it was conducting SWAT operations at the address of Congregation Beth Israel.

The services were being live streamed on the synagogue’s Facebook page for a time, and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that apparent negotiations could be heard between the alleged hostage taker and police. The paper reported that an angry man could be heard ranting and talking about religion at times during the livestream, which didn’t show what was happening inside the synagogue.

Shortly before 2 p.m., the man said, “You got to do something. I don’t want to see this guy dead.”

Moments later, the feed cut out.

“The man repeatedly mentioned his sister and Islam and used profanities, and he repeatedly said he thought he was going to die, the Star-Telegram reported. It wasn’t immediately clear if he was armed,” the Associated Press reported.

An ABC News reporter says the gunman is the brother of a known terrorist currently being held at Carswell Air Force Base. He is demanding that his sister be freed.
