
DEVELOPING STORY: At least three people were killed after an explosion at a training facility operated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. KTLA reports those who were killed were deputies. There’s no word just yet on what caused the explosion or how many people may have been injured. The blast reportedly happened near a bomb squad vehicle. CBS News: Blast Was NOT Training Accident
Two senior law enforcement officials in Los Angeles tell CBS News they are actively investigating the explosion as possibly triggered by material recovered yesterday that exploded this morning. It is probably not an improvised explosive device, and it does not appear to be a training accident.
LA Sheriff: Homicide Detectives on Scene
“This morning, shortly after 7:30 a.m., a critical workplace incident occurred in the 1000 block of North Eastern Avenue in East Los Angeles at the Biscailuz Training Facility. Tragically, there were three Department member fatalities. Sheriff’s homicide detectives are on scene. The FBI LA, ATF are assisting LASD. This is still an active seen and further details will be forthcoming.”
AG Bondi Issues Statement about Explosion
“I just spoke to @USAttyEssayli about what appears to be a horrific incident that killed at least three at a law enforcement training facility in Los Angeles,” Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote on X. “Our federal agents are at the scene and we are working to learn more. Please pray for the families of the sheriff’s deputies killed.”
