Catastrophic Flash Floods Swamp San Diego, Hundreds Rescued

Dozens of people in San Diego had to be rescued after flash floods swept away cars and rising floodwaters trapped citizens in their homes. Some residents had to be rescued from their rooftops. At least two lifeguards jumped into the flood waters to save motorists who were caught up in the deluge. Interstate 5 was turned into a raging river and a number of cars were swept away. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that student at a grade school were forced to seek refuge on a second floor after three feet of water flooded the building. Hundreds of people were rescued from their flooded homes on Beta Street in San Diego. First responders used inflatable boats and rescue boards to get people to safety, some were even on their roofs waiting to be rescued.The mayor has declared a state of emergency.
