LIVE COVERAGE: More than a half-foot of rain caused major flooding across Chattanooga and resulted in the closure of Interstate 24. Photos and video showed firefighters and first responders rescuing motorists who were caught up in the flash floods. Weston Wamp, the mayor of Hamilton County, which includes Chattanooga, declared a state of emergency shortly before 10 p.m. and asked residents to “exercise extreme caution.” A family of two adults and one child died after a tree fell on their car in East Ridge Wednesday morning, the Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.
