The Texas National Guard has seized control of a park at the U.S. southern border and is blocking federal agents from entering the area – a move seen as a significant escalation of tensions between the state and the Biden administration.
“They are denying entry to Border Patrol agents to conduct our duties,” two government officials told CBS News, noting they are not sure “what authority (Texas officials) have over the federal government.”
The Texas National Guard took control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass. Troops have now set up razor wire and fences to block off the area.
“The Texas National Guard has maintained a presence with security points and temporary barrier in Shelby Park since 2021,” spokesman Michael Perry said in a statement to CBS News. “The current posture is to prepare for future illegal immigrant surges and to restrict access to organizations that perpetuate illegal immigrant crossings in the park and greater Eagle Pass area.”
The Border Patrol Union praised Gov. Abbott for taking matters into his own hands.
“Governor Abbott is not harming Border Patrol operations, he is enhancing them,” Brandon Judd said in a statement to Fox News. “His seizing control of Shelby Park allows our agents to deploy to troubled spots that experience high numbers of gotaways. Governor Abbott’s actions should be seen as a force multiplier.”
Under Article 4 Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution the federal government has a responsibility to defend states against an invasion. Biden and his administration have clearly failed to live up to their constitutional obligations.
Therefore, Gov. Abbott has every right to take whatever means are necessary to protect the people of the Lone Star State.
And any federal agent or officer who removes border barricades, razor wire fencing or tries to assist illegals in crossing the border should be taken immediately into custody by Texas Rangers.
Other states should follow suit and detain any federal officers who are violating state laws by assisting the illegal alien invaders.
The Lone Star State must know that they are not standing alone in their noble quest to restore and protect the sovereignty of the United States.
