Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) is projected by Fox News to win Texas’s gubernatorial race, defeating Democrat challenger Beto O’Rourke.
This will be Abbot’s third term as the governor of the Lone Star State.
O’Rourke has gained national attention running in several high profile races in the last four years. In 2018, O’Rourke came close to defeating Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in a Senate bid. Then two years later, the Texas Democrat unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for president.
As this is Abbot’s third straight victory in Texas, speculation will increase that Abbot may run for president in 2024.
