Footage of a Christian being told he needs to take off his “Jesus Saves” shirt at the Mall of America because people were “offended” is going viral.

“If you want to shop here, you need to take that shirt off,” a security officer at the iconic Minnesota mall can be heard telling the man in a video posted by @rawlsfamily on TikTok.

“What is wrong with my t-shirt?” the man asked. The back of his shirt reads, “Jesus is the only way” with the “coexist” symbol crossed out.

“Again, sir, it is religious soliciting. There is no soliciting on mall property, which is private property,” the guard told the man. “We’ve had guests come up and say they are offended by your shirt.”

The officer asked him if he wanted to be arrested if he wouldn’t take off the shirt.

“Do you want to be arrested for the charge of trespassing?” he added.

“What did I do wrong?” the man asked.

“Jesus is associated with religion and it’s offending people,” the officer could be heard saying at a different point in the conversation.

WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW POSTED BY JOHN MASON:

According to the Mall of America’s website, “inappropriate” clothing includes “apparel that has obscene language, obscene gestures or racial/religious/ethnic slurs that are likely to create a disturbance.”

As for soliciting, the website states:

Conduct that is disorderly, disruptive or which interferes with or endangers business or guests is prohibited. Such conduct may include but is not limited to:

  • Loitering, engaging in soliciting, blocking storefronts, hallways, skyways, fire exits or escalators, or walking in groups in such a way as to inconvenience others
  • Picketing, demonstrating, soliciting, protesting or petitioning (emphasis added)

“I automatically assumed this was overseas, but it’s right here in America,” John Mason, who posted the video to Twitter, said.

Is the Mall of America anti-Christian?

Many online agreed though this is only a portion of what went down.

“I don’t even recognize this country anymore,” Kangmin Lee wrote.

“Bet they wouldn’t have said anything about an Allah Saves shirt,” one man said.

“When you say something is ‘open to the public’ it means everyone is welcome. Not doing so should result in losing your right to remain open for business. Shut the mall down,” another user said.
