The plane took a hard landing in the choppy waters and partially capsized at just after 12 p.m., officials told The New York Post.

ATC audio captured a distress call: “LaGuardia Tower, mayday, mayday, mayday, plane down on the water.”

Footage of the river shows the plane bobbing in the water with one wing submerged as rescue crews work to get the passengers out. Two of the passengers sustained minor injuries and were being evaluated by EMS, the FDNY said.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it will investigate after “the pilot of a Kodiak 100 seaplane made a hard landing in the East River near Brooklyn, New York, at about noon local time on Sunday, July 5, causing a wing strut to snap.”
