Teen Republican Killed Because of His Political Beliefs

A North Dakota man charged with killing a Republican teenager by plowing him down in an alley with his SUV reportedly told police it was over the teen’s “Republican extremist” views.

Shannon Brandt, 41, was chraged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a deadly accident in the death of 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson Sunday in McHenry, a small town two hours northwest of Fargo, KVRR-TV reports.

“Court papers show Brandt called 911 around 2:30 a.m. Sunday and told the 911 dispatcher that he just hit Ellingson, claiming the teen was part of a Republican extremist group and was calling people to come get Brandt after a political argument,” the Inforum reports.

The teen’s mom, Sheri Larson Ellingons, told law enforcement her son called her moments before the crash and asked if she knew Brandt. She said she knew him but did not believe her son knew him.

Police arrested Brandt at his home after he fled the scene and called 911 to report the crash. Authorities said he was allegedly drunk at the time.

After the judge ordered Brandt be held onf a $50,000 bail he objected, saying he is not a flight risk, Inforum reports.

“I have a job, a life and a house and things I don’t want to see go by the wayside — family that are very important to me,” Brandt told the judge.

Many online pointed out Ellingson’s death comes two weeks after President Biden’s speech labeling MAGA Republicans as “semi-fascists.”

“Cayler Ellingson was murdered by a left-wing extremist in North Dakota,” Jack Posobiec tweeted. “He was run over for being a Republican.”

A GoFundMe has been set up by a lifelong family friend of the Ellingsons. Hundreds have donated as of Wednesday, surpassing the $10,000 goal with over $17,000.

“Cayler was taken way too soon from them and their other son Chases Life A thing no parent should ever have to endure in their life, is to lose a child. Cayler has went to heaven and will be missed by his Mom, Dad, Brother, Uncles, Aunts, cousins many Family and Friends,” Nicole Clifton Geiszler wrote.

“Please lend a helping hand to help this family in such a huge and tragic loss of Cayler. God Blessings and Prayers to all of Cayler’s Family and Friends,” she added.
