United Flight Veers Off Runway in Houston

Passengers were evacuated from a United flight Friday morning after it veered off a runway at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The flight had originated in Memphis.

An airport spokesperson said everyone was evacuated safely and no injuries were reported.

The airline told Fox26 Houston that the aircraft involved, a Boeing 737 MAX 8, was carrying 160 passengers and six crew members.

“We are removing luggage from the aircraft and will work to reunite customers with their belongings as quickly as possible. We are thankful for the actions of our crew to deplane all passengers safely,” United Airlines told Fox26 Houston.

The passengers were deplaned on the taxiway and bused to the terminal, the FAA said.

The FAA issued the following statement:

“After landing at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, United Airlines Flight 2477 rolled onto the grass when exiting onto the taxiway around 8 a.m. local time on Friday, March 8. The passengers deplaned on the taxiway and were bused to the terminal. The Boeing 737 departed from Memphis International Airport. Please contact the airline for additional information. The FAA will investigate.”

The incident happened after a United Airlines flight traveling from Houston to Fort Myers, Florida, had to turn around for an emergency landing after experiencing an engine issue on Monday, the airline confirmed.

And on Thursday a tire fell off a United Airlines flight departing from San Francisco International Airport to Osaka, Japan Thursday morning, officials confirmed.

“At approximately 11:35 a.m., United Flight 35 departing to Osaka lost a portion of landing gear tire during takeoff,” a United representative said.
