When the governor of New York issued an SOS – America’s healthcare workers and first responders rushed to the scene.
They set up field hospitals. They stepped in for exhausted doctors and nurses.
It was the kind of behavior one would expect from red-blooded American patriots.
But instead of honoring the heroes of the global pandemic – Governor Andrew Cuomo has decided to pick their pockets.
The governor announced that out-of-state healthcare heroes will have to pay state income taxes. He said they cannot provide any subsidies because the state is facing a $13 billion deficit.
“We’re not in a position to provide any subsidies right now becaue we have a $13 billion deficit,” Cuomo said at a press briefing. “So there’s a lot of good things I’d like to do, and if we get federal funding, we can do, but it would be irresponsible for me to sit here looking at a $13 billion deficit and say I’m gonna spend more money, when I can’t even pay the essential services.”
Among those facing a New York State tax bill is Samaritan’s Purse.
The non-profit humanitarian agency cared for more than 300 patients in a field hospital set up in Central Park.
The ministry was already facing unprecedented attacks from gay New Yorkers – angry that Samaritan’s Purse follows the Bible’s teachings on marriage. And now this!
It’s like giving your mom flowers on Mother’s Day – and then sending her the bill.
