The U.S. Navy’s official Facebook and Twitter accounts posted updated profiles pictures Monday featuring a surgical mask covering the face of the service’s eagle logo.
Navy Times reports the logo is “not the official uniformed logo of the sea service — that designation would be reserved for the Anchor, USS Constitution, and Eagle (ACE) emblem — social media-dispatched judgement was nevertheless swift.”

The COVID-friendly logo is not exactly earning praise from Americans or sailors.
“It is so embarrassing seeing a mask on the US Navy Eagle. Almost to ashamed to say I am a US Navy retiree,” wrote one veteran on Twitter.
“The eagle on the anchor has a mask on to protect it from covid and to block stink of resent navy leadership decisions at the Flag and SES level,” one observer noted on Navy Times.
Newsmax TV host John Cardillo said, “the eagle in the @USNavy’s logo is wearing a mask. China, Iran, and Russia are pissing their pants laughing at us.”
