The adult son of legendary funnyman Bill Murray was arrested earlier this week on charges of assault and battery on a police officer after a protest on Martha’s Vineyard and is currently being held without bail, a report said.
The Vineyard Gazette painted a chaotic scene Monday on the exclusive island that police said included Caleb Murray, 27, hurling a rock through a truck window. Murray allegedly became uncooperative while he was being transported to Duke County jail and spit and bit a police officer, the report said, citing the police report.

The police officer who was allegedly assaulted “was able to finish the transport to the jail, where [Murray] again became uncooperative, attacking deputies. After being put into a cell, he then used a piece of the cell to not only cut himself but cut the deputies.”
Murray was also accused of threatening to burn down “all the [expletive] buildings,” the report said. He was ordered held without bail until he could be evaluated, the report said.
Murray was charged with two counts of assault and battery against a police officer, making terroristic threats and threatening to commit a crime, the report said. The magistrate judge found no probable cause for the charges of malicious destruction of property and making terroristic threats, the report said.

The Gazette reported that the protest was largely peaceful and included hundreds of people. Tensions rose when Eric Woods, 66, allegedly yelled a racial slur, the report said. Woods allegedly confronted a 19-year-old at the protest and, according to police, punched the teen. A protester reportedly threw a rock through Woods’ truck’s window and police said Murray—at that moment—“put his hands on his head” and dropped to his knees.”
Tense protests have been reported across the country after the death of George Floyd in police custody. Many protests call on cities to defund police forces in order to free up funding for communities of color.
Woods was charged with disorderly conduct and assault and battery, the report said. An attorney for Bill Murray did not respond to Fox News‘ request for comment.
