Chick-fil-A Boss Calls for White Christians to Repent of Racism

Chick-fil-A has gone woke.

Chief Executive Officer Dan Cathy called on White Christians to personally repent of racism.

“We, as Caucasians, until we are willing to just pick up the baton and fight for our black African-American brothers and sisters which they are as one human race, we are shameful,” Cathy said in video remarks. “We are just adding to it. Our silence is so huge at this time.”

Cathy was part of a roundtable discussion on race relations hosted by Louie Giglio, the pastor of Passion City Church in Atlanta, and LeCrae, a popular Christian musical artist. Watch the entire video below.

“We need a period of contrition and a broken heart in the city of Atlanta,” Cathy said about injustice against Black Americans. “Most of us, white people, we’re out-of-sight-out-of-mind oblivious to it. We cannot let this moment pass.”

At one point Cathy pulls out a brush and commences to shine Lecrae’s shoes as a sign of repentance.

“Any expressions of a contrite heart, of a sense of humility, a sense of shame, a sense of embarrassment … an apologetic heart, I think that’s what our world needs to hear today,” Cathy said.

A number of Chick-fil-A stores have been vandalized during the unrest of the past few weeks. Cathy encouraged white Christians not to get obsessed with the vandalism.

“[M]y plea would be for the white people, rather than point fingers at that kind of criminal effort, would be to see the level of frustration and exasperation and almost the sense of hopelessness that exists on some of those activists within the African-American community,” he said.

I commend the evangelical Christian leaders who are coming forward and publicly admitting that they are racists. We should affirm our white brothers and sisters who have repented because they have sinned against people of color.

That being said, just because you may be a racist or harbor racist tendencies doesn’t mean every white person in your church does, too. So, please – stop projecting.

That’s a sin, too.
