DEVELOPING STORY: There were some terrifying moments outside Coast Guard Base Alameda when the driver of a U-Haul truck put the vehicle in reverse and drove towards the entrance to the base. A photographer for television station KPIX was on the scene and filmed the moment when the incident happened. Multiple shots hit the truck before the driver sped away and escaped.
The Mercury News reports that two men arrived at local hospitals for gunshot wounds after the shooting and one of them is believed to be the driver of the U-Haul.
The incident happened after a violent protest took place outside the base as a mob attempted to block U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents.
Protesters began to arrive at Coast Guard Island around 6 a.m., blocking the entrance to the island. Shortly after 7 a.m., a CBS News Bay Area crew spotted a Coast Guard vehicle drive past the crowd and then fire flash bangs and smoke grenades to disperse it.

“Coast Guard personnel issued multiple verbal commands to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to comply and proceeded to put the vehicle in reverse,” the Coast Guard said in a statement. “When the vehicle’s actions posed a direct threat to the safety of Coast Guard and security personnel, law enforcement officers discharged several rounds of live fire.”
The FBI has taken the lead into the investigation.
“DHS is targeting the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens – including murderers, rapists, gang members, pedophiles, and terrorists – in cities such as Portland, Chicago, Memphis and San Francisco,” a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said. “As it does every day, DHS law enforcement will enforce the laws of our nation.”
