Disney’s ‘Tangled’ among the top Google searches due to coronavirus coincidences

Social media users- trapped inside their homes with their kids armed only with board games and a Disney + subscription, no doubt—noticed some uncanny coincidences that the 2010 movie “Tangled” has with the current coronavirus outbreak.

The coincidences may be a little bit of a stretch, but what else are we supposed to do being stuck home under various shelter-in-place laws?

Google said “what is the name of the kingdom in ‘Tangled,’” was among the top searches over the last day, the Hill reported. Metro, a U.K. newspaper, asked flatly, “Did Disney predict coronavirus? Fans lose it as they realize ‘Tangled’ locks Rapunzel in a tower away from the village of Corona”

The animated movie stars Mandy Moore. It is about a princess with long, flowing blond hair locked in a tower with the evil Mother Gothel. Mother Gothel tells Rapunzel that the world is dangerous and she is only safe inside the tower.

“So the movie from Disney Tangled the girl is not allowed out of the castle. The kingdom is called Corona. Coincidence!!’ I don’t think so,” one Twitter user posted.

Last month, social media highlighted a Dean Koontz novel, “The Eyes of Darkness,” which they said eerily described the coronavirus.

The virus was called “Wuhan-400.” The text read, “They call the stuff ‘Wuhan-400’ because it was developed at their RDNA labs outside of the city of Wuhan, and it was the four-hundredth viable strain of man-made microorganisms created at that research center.”

Reuters reported that the claims of the book’s prophecy are “partly false.” The report said the virus identified in the book doesn’t share many of the characteristics with COVID-19 and there is no evidence the virus was created in a lab.

The Metro newspaper went on to point out that one Twitter user seems optimistic about the coronavirus outcome, based on the movie.

“Corona is an island kingdom and the birthplace of Rapunzel in Disney’s 2010 animated feature film, Tangled. After a significant period of isolation it is also where Rapunzal met her future husband/prince. Just saying,” the post read.
