Do Republicans Really Want to Win the Midterms?

If you haven’t already figured this out – Republicans are not serious about the midterm elections. Lawmakers are going back on their campaign promises. Senate Republicans are literally blocking President Trump’s America First agenda. The Republican National Committee has been neutered. Grassroots conservatives are being marginalized by local and state parties. And voter anger is at an all-time high.
Republican voters are not to blame for what happened in Virginia. Quite frankly, had it not been for their surge at the polls – the redistricting plan might have won in a landslide. As of now – the Democrats won by about a three-point margin.
What happened in Virginia is on Republican Party leadership. And that starts at the White House. There was no sense of urgency. The RNC invested very little dollars into the fight. It should’ve been all hands on deck but it appears the GOP had a hands-off approach.
As it now stands – at least four rock-solid Republican seats will become Democrat seats and House Speaker Mike Johnson’s days in power may be coming to an end.
Democrats recruited former President Barack Obama and a number of other heavy hitters – investing more than 56 million dollars. Republican groups spent about $25 million dollars, according to the New York Times.
Congressman Richard Hudson is chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee. In a statement, he said:
“Virginia Democrats can’t redraw reality: This close margin reinforces that Virginia is a purple state that shouldn’t be represented by a severe partisan gerrymander.”

But the reality, Congressman Hudson, is that you guys lost. And you did not have to lose. That’s why people are angry.
Virginia House Minority Leader Terry Kilgore said the results were not unexpected. He blamed the misleading language on the ballot and the massive spending advantage. Again – issues that could have been addressed early on in the process.
Republicans seem uninterested in remaining in control of Congress. It’s almost as if they want to throw the midterms.
There is still hope to turn around the ship – but the entire Republican Party apparatus needs a come-to-Jesus meeting. It’s time to refocus on what matters to the American people – not other countries. America First. Always.
My recommendation is for every Republican state to engage in the fight. If you have a chance to gerrymander – do it. As the Political Bible says – do unto the Democrats as they have done unto you.
And any Republican who stands in the way of the President’s agenda must face a primary opponent. Enough is enough. Now is not the time for cowards. Now is the time for real men and women of courage – with backbones and balls of steel. And one final thought:
Politics is not afternoon tea at the country club. It’s a street fight. Democrats are showing up with leather jackets and baseball bats. Republicans are showing up in seersucker suits noshing on cucumber sandwiches.
In the words of Barack Hussein Obama – if they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.
