An elite Nashville school that educated stars like Reese Witherspoon and Amy Grant has decided to end their annual George Washington Celebration, a tradition that dates back more than 100 years.
Harpeth Hall School, an all-female prep school, said a growing number of students, faculty and staff were uncomfortable honoring the nation’s first president, The Tennessee Star reported exclusively.
Jess Hill, the head of the school, told the newspaper that the celebration “is not consistent with or relevant to the way that we teach history today.”
“It does not demonstrate the significant role that women, people of color, and other underrepresented groups play in our nation’s history,” Hill said.
Todd Starnes, the best-selling author, said the school’s decision is an example of what he called a culture jihad.

“In this case, educators at a private school have decided that our Founding Father – our nation’s first president – is not worthy of recognition and celebration. This is part of a concerted effort among leftist educators to destabilize our country by convincing students that America is an evil nation.”
Starnes wrote about this dangerous trend in education in his latest book, “Culture Jihad: How to Stop the Left From Killing a Nation.” Click here for a copy.
