More young women are ditching college and heading directly into the workforce. But Generation Z gals are not working in restaurants or offices. Many are choosing to work in garages and construction sites.
The National Student Clearing House reports that vocational school enrollment shot up by 16 percent last year. That’s a record number.

While most are young men – more than 11 percent of those who completed an apprenticeship program are female.
Victoria Carl is a 25-year-old who owns a car repair shop in Albany, New York.
“It’s about time for people to start realizing that you can make more money, have a better career path, have a happier life, have a better family in the long term, by doing stuff with your hands,” Carl told the New York Post.
“My guidance counselor said, ‘Absolutely not, why don’t you go to trade school for nursing or cosmetology or go to college?’ she recalled. “And, honestly, at first it was terrifying when I was the only woman in the class, but ultimately I became more confident.”

Generation Z is now being referred to as the tool belt generation.
