Grocery Store Chain Rebrands ‘Christmas’ Tree
A London supermarket chain may get a lump of coal in their Christmas stockings this year.
Tesco is sort of like the British version of a Kroger. For many years they sold Christmas trees at their stores. But not this year.
Instead, Tesco is selling something called an “Evergreen Tree.” That’s right, folks. Our cousins across the Big Pond have rebranded the Christmas tree.
It’s caused a big controversy in British media — from the Daily Telegraph to the Daily Mail.
“Britons Rage Over ‘Woke’ Tesco’s Decision to Rename Christmas Trees,” read one headline. “Name Change Sparks Fury.”

Susan Hall is a conservative leader and a member of the London Assembly.
“Wretched ridiculous nonsense, call it what it is, it’s a Christmas tree. There, I said it out loud. I’m fed up with all this woke stupidity,” she wrote on X.
Tesco denied claims in the nation’s largest newspapers that they’ve gone woke, but it’s not the first time they’ve gotten caught renaming O Tannenbaum.
Olympic medalist Sharron Davies, called it a bit silly, writing on X: “It’s a Christmas tree that people put up at Christmas to celebrate Christmas!”
Many others took to social media to pose a very simple question to the store: “Why are you undermining this ancient Christian tradition?
It’s all silly of course.
I wonder if the sell cartons of holiday eggs on Easter Sunday. Or orange Autumn gourds at Halloween?
Here’s my general rule: if it’s decorated with bright lights and ornaments and garland – it’s a Christmas tree. There’s no need to get your tinsel in a twist.
