Hello Americans. I’m Todd Starnes with news and commentary next.
The Hallmark Channel is going gay.
The family-friendly network announcing a slate of LGBT and Q movies in the coming year.
They also said that a number of their Christmas movies will include some gay characters.
However, that did not satisfy the LGBT community.
One critic demanded the network produce Christmas movies feature gay characters and actors in lead roles.
“We are not free until a QUEER lonely careerist leaves the big city to run their small-town family business during the holidays and inadvertently falls in love with a generically good-looking person from their past,” Netflix writer JP Larocque.
Hallmark Channel says they have made diversity and inclusion a top priority. And they plan to deliver on their promise to the gay community.
And I’ll bet wager you thought Hallmark’s top priority was delivering family friendly Christmas movies about saving a small town coffee house from a big city corporation.
“Diversity and inclusion is a top priority for us and we look forward to making some exciting programming announcements in the coming months, including announcements about projects featuring LGBTQ storylines, characters, and actors,” Hallmark spokesman George Zaralidis said in a statement. “We are committed to creating a Hallmark experience where everyone feels welcome.”
The network had earlier released a partial list of 40 movies for the upcoming holiday season, and received blowback for its lack of LGBTQ+ stories, including one from Netflix writer JP Larocque.
All that to say don’t be surprised if Hallmark’s “Countdown to Christmas” includes a movie about a gender nonconforming reindeer named Rudolph who joins forces with a bunch of pansexual elves who try to save Christmas after Santa goes into a deep depression when he finds out Mrs. Claus is a mister.
