Keith Olbermann Calls Men’s Hockey Team ‘Sc*mbags’
Rabid anti-Trump pundit Keith Olbermann is lashing out at Team USA over reports the men’s hockey team may attend President Trump’s upcoming State of the Union address.
The disgraced broadcaster praised the women’s hockey team for declining an invitation to attend the event.
“The women’s team is made up of patriots,” Olbermann wrote on X. “The men’s team? Self-absorbed scumbag misogynists.”
Olbermann, a longtime Trump critic and former ESPN and MSNBC host, posted a sharply worded message on X condemning the men’s team.
“Anybody smart (or respectful of women athletes) on the U.S. Men’s Olympic hockey team or connected to it, will refuse Trump’s invitation to The State of the Union,” Olbermann wrote.
The unemployable journalist escalated the criticism even further in the same post.
“Any who show up are declaring their indelible stupidity and misogyny. The End.”
The remarks immediately drew attention across social media, with critics accusing Olbermann of insulting American athletes and politicizing a moment meant to celebrate national achievement.
The invitation to the State of the Union is traditionally viewed as a symbolic honor extended to Americans who have distinguished themselves in public service, athletics, or acts of heroism. Olympic athletes from both summer and winter games have frequently been recognized at major national events or invited to the White House by presidents of both political parties.
Supporters of the hockey team argue that such invitations are intended to celebrate athletic excellence and national pride rather than advance a political agenda. Team USA’s Olympic competitors represent the United States on the global stage, often drawing bipartisan praise for their performance and dedication.
Olbermann has been one of President Trump’s most vocal critics for years, frequently using social media to denounce the administration and its supporters. His latest comments reflect the ongoing political divisions surrounding major national events and the role of sports figures in public life.
Neither Team USA officials nor representatives for the men’s Olympic hockey team have publicly responded to Olbermann’s remarks or commented on whether any players plan to attend the address.
