The fire chief in Aurora, Illinois ordered the U.S. flag to be raised to full staff at all fire stations in defiance of President Trump’s directive that flags should remain at half-staff to honor the assassinated civil rights leader Charlie Kirk.
“I know everyone has their own opinion on whether the flag should be at full or half-staff, but that is irrelevant,” Chief Dave McCabe wrote in an email to firefighters.
“Someone will be coming around to raise all the station flags to full staff,” he added.
Mayor John Laesch (D-IL) caused outrage after he ordered staff to ignore President Trump’s directive.
“For me, I think it severely diminishes the act of lowering the flag as an act of remembrance of tragedies like Sept. 11, when we lower the flag for a political activist or pundit,” Laesch told the Daily Herald. “If you lowered the flags at every shooting, they would be permanently flown at half (staff) in the United States.”
However, firefighters at one station defied the mayor’s callous decision. They padlocked the flagpole. God bless those patriotic men.
Retired firefighter Franck Ricci accused the mayor of “chasing cheap political points over national mourning.”
Jim Marter, a Republican congressional candidate said Aurora City Hall had “devolved into left-wing radicals.”
The city’s Democrat mayor and fire chief need to be fired. They’ve disobeyed a direct order from the Commander-in-Chief.
